I thoughly enjoyed building it, love being out in it. Thank you for putting here and I'll send you a pic of her sailing. Merry Xmas, regards Craig

Roberts 246
Build from WOOD EPOXY or FIBERGLASS PLANS & FULL SIZE PATTERNS
The rig is designed to achieve the maximum performance of this lively sailboat that is ideal as either a family cruiser or for Club racing where it will do well against any similar sized boat.
Roberts 246 built by and photos courtesy of John and Mandy Farrer
This boat has a spacious interior and full standing headroom throughout.
There are two fixed keel options - either the medium draft or the deeper ultimate performance keel may suit you best.
Above is shown the drop keel version which is combined with the lifting rudder to allow you access to areas where the water is a bit thin ! If you are looking for a handy Club Racer or a high performance trailerable sailboat then the Roberts 246 could suit you. The detailed plans and full size patterns make this an easy boat to build in either wood epoxy or fiberglass.
This illustration shows the male hull mold covered with either thin inexpensive plywood or hard-board followed by the inner fiberglass laminate, next either foam or balsa core and finally the outer layers of fiberglass. Note the area of the keel is not cored but has additional fiberglass laminate to provide maximum strength in this area.
Here we see the construction of the deck and cabin male mold which consists of deck and cabin top frames and battens covered with either thin inexpensive plywood or hard-board followed by the inner fiberglass laminate, either foam or balsa core is then installed and finally the outer layers of fiberglass are laminated in place.

Another Roberts 25 lies at anchor in a cove on the Australian coastline.
With over 1,000 examples already sailing in almost every part of the world this is one of our most popular sailboats. Capable of off-shore cruising this is one rugged sailboat that can be easily handled by one person but can accomodate a small family on extended cruises.
I purchased my boat plans for a Roberts 25 from Bruce Roberts in about 1975. A couple years later I purchased a Hull and Deck from Morrissey, Port Moody, Canada, and finished out the Roberts 25 in Mesa, AZ. In 1981, my then 11 year old son and I took my month long shake-down cruise on the Aarian in the waters along the West coast of BC. Since then I've cruised in the coastal waters on the East and West coasts of the US, West coast of BC, Puget Sound, and the Gulf of California, as well as on some of the lakes in AZ.

Spray 27
Trailerable
Build from STEEL, ALUMINUM,WOOD EPOXY or FIBERGLASS PLANS & FULL SIZE PATTERNS
CUTTING FILES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE SPRAY 27
Spray 27 Version A (Standard Coach House)Hi, Bruce: In September 1999 I had the transom plate rolled and it was the first plate I tacked on my boat (27 Spray). Well, I would like to let you know that yesterday July 22 I finally finished welding the whole hull. Considering I left for last the keel plate I had a professional welder finished it. It looks real strong. Now I can concentrate in sanding the hull and prime it so I can roll it over. Maybe two weeks. Thank you for your support...Art
Here we see the profile and plan view of the ( Pilot house ) version B accommodation. Other layouts are possible and many builders make changes to suit their own particular requirements.
After several builders asked for a trailerable stretched version of the Spray 22, we produced the Spray 27.....This boat is incredibly popular ... over 300 sailing world-wide. There are two basic layouts - either regular or pilot house - and either can be rigged with a gaff sail plan or as a Bermudan sloop. Both regular Trunk cabin and Pilot house versions for each material - STEEL, ALUMINUM, FIBERGLASS & WOOD EPOXY as applicable to the particular boat plan - with up the boat plans. CUTTING FILES are available for building in STEEL or ALUMINUM
Greetings, Bruce. My name is Igor. I am a Russian architect. Excuse for the bad English as this is an electronic translation. I live in Siberia near to beautiful big lake Baikal. I very much wanted to construct a boat and 4 years ago I found on the Internet the description of your Spray 27.
You have sent me drawings by e-mail. I have a little changed the project. 2 years proceeded construction. The hull - metal, with a wooden cabin. I have named her *Mobi Dick*. In August 2006 I and my wife of 2 weeks travelled across Baikal.
On travel the boat has very much liked me. She is reliable. She is not overloaded with sails. Allows me to operate alone. Long Keel is super. She goes against a wind! Many friends have become interested in this project and now 3 more hulls are in work. SEE MORE PHOTOS OF THIS BOAT IN STUDY boat plans PACKAGE. I want to thank you for the successful project. Best regards! Igor V.Logvanov.

Tom Thumb 26, 28, 305 & 330
Build from STEEL or ALUMINUM PLANS & FULL SIZE PATTERNS
ALL TOM THUMB VERSIONS SHOWN COME IN ONE STUDY PLAN PACKAGE.
Dear Bruce, I built a tom thumb 26 as you can see the photo attached. I would like to thank you for this perfect design. I add a boomkin and a long bow also cutter rig. And I add additional 250 kg in keel because of larger sail area. Round shape and teak deck and mahogany works for traditional boat appearance. She is cruising perfect and she can reach 6 - 7 knot easily in between 3-7 beufort with sails. I also change the accommodation according to my requirements with mahogany work. I cruised over 1000 miles in this summer with her & I am totally satisfied & I am proud of her. I strongly recommend this perfect design for all the sailors that want to built their boat by themselves. Thanks and best Regards, Hakan GOKMEN

"Thumb 26 "Margarita"
Hi Bruce, I just wanted to write a quick note regarding my Margarita, a Tom Thumb design built by my uncle; John Larkum. I sailed her for over 5,000 miles last year including Mexico, the Bay Islands of Honduras, the Rio Dulce in Guatemala (where the attached picture was taken), as well as Belize and the east coast of the states from virginia to the Florida Keys. What a trip!!
Tom Thumb 26 September 2009 Hi Bruce, I am the proud owner of a Tom Thumb built by Mike Hornsey in the UK. It’s a fantastic little boat and has already got me safely and without fuss through some serious weather and all the mistakes a learner can make.
I am now ready to move to something bigger and I think the Voyager Ds 440 in steel is the one for me. Is the anywhere I can get some idea of cost without labour to complete the build. I realise it’s a pretty dumb question and will depend on the quality of the fit out and standard of equipment but any help you can give with this would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Barry Murphy
\ Designed for those that prefer either steel or aluminum as their building material, the Tom Thumb comes in a variety of sizes and accomodation layouts. A well proven sailboat that you can build and later sail in confidence.
Dear Bruce, A friend took the photo in October 1996 sailing in Queensland waters just south of Gladstone. The hull and deck were professionally built there for a friend who could not finish it so I bought it and fitted it out myself with the very best of everything. It is a fantastic little sea-boat. I sail alone most of the time and never steer. The fully battened main and other sails from a top racing loft helps performance too.
However, I like alternative rigs - I have a friend with a junk rigged Tom Thumb, \"Minke\", and have sailed in company for hundreds of miles, comparing the rigs. I walk away from \"Minke\" in light head-winds and smooth seas. In boisterous open sea conditions to windward I always fall off onto a very close reach (45 degrees apparent) and then there is very little in it.
Downwind we are evenly matched. I can creep away at times because I have no inboard engine and do not drag a propeller, but if we have to throw in a gybe or two to clear a reef etc, "Minke" gets ahead while I am running around changing headsail poles from one side to the other and resetting guys etc.
If you want to direct Australian clients to have a look at "Arion" you would be welcome, I keep the boat at the Breakwater Marina, Townsville, and won't be off cruising again for a couple of years or so. Graham Cox Townsville QLD 4810 Australia, Cheers Graham Cox

Roberts 28
BOAT PLANS & CUTTING FILES FOR STEEL OR ALUMINUM
Pilot house version available with CUTTING FILES ![]()
NOTE: We now have cutting files available for the PILOT HOUSE version of the Roberts 28 Email Bruce for details
Dear Bruce, I bought a Roberts 28 from Lyn Baker of Ithica N.Y.in 1989. I trucked it to Rochester N.Y. and sailed it in Lake Ontario for several years then to East Port Maine, where I went to a boat building school for two years I then sailed "One Day" from Eastport Down the east coast to Cape Cod Stopping at number of ports on the way.
When I got to Cape Cod my friend convinced me to sail home to Bermuda, so I did, in September of 1994 I set out for Bermuda it took me 12 days, I had estimated 10 days but I was hit by a tropical depression and survived Gail force winds for forty eight hours, this accounted for the two extra days. The boat handled extremely well and I would do the trip again. "One Day" is an extremely seaworthy craft. Yours truly Christopher M. Profit
Hi Bruce, I purchased boat plans for the Roberts 28 last
month. I received them and they are GREAT. Very satisfied with the quality of
the boat plans. I plan on using my
boat for extended cruising in the Gulf of Mexico / Caribbean so I want to make SURE that
everything is as ideal as it can be. Thanks again Todd Stinnette

ROBERTS 310 VERSION B PILOT HOUSE VERSION
Hi Bruce, as promised some time ago that I'll let you know when we have one of your 310's, she is on twin fins as per your drawings and rig as per boat plans. T he sailing performance is superb, better than expected. We had the pleasure for 2 days of sailing here with Dick Durham (Yachting monthly news editor). She is to be featured in August issue.
We managed to sustain 8.5 kts running beam to wind in 17 kts of wind. I think this proves that you know how to design an excellent smallish steel yacht. Jill and myself and Duncan Mason would just like to say thanks for an excellent design.
She is a great talking piece in our local marina in Cearnarfon north Wales. Ive enclosed a pic of here under sail on the test day. If you would like any other pics please let me know and ill send some. Best regards Duncan & Jill. We think that the magazine feature will put it in better words than we ever can.
As a shake down cruise a couple of us took the boat across the Irish Sea to Dublin. Whilst we expected force 5 winds, we did not expect to arrive in Ireland in a Force 9 and in the dark. The boat was fantastic, safe, secure and dry in the deep cockpit despite waves over the bow reaching the deck saloon windows on occasion! Regards David Newman
The Roberts safety skeg is designed to take the best features from the LONG FIN / SKEG combination and add a SAFETY FACTOR. Many of you may be aware that skegs in general are vulnerable to damage so here is our answer to this problem. EMAIL Bruce to more details of this development.
Here we see the construction of the hull male mold which consists of frames cut using the full size patterns supplied with the boat plans plus the addition of timber battens, C-flex fiberglass and shows the first layers of fiberglass laminate.
Above we see the Fiberglass being installed on a hull mold as described above. Similar methods are used to install core material such as Corecell or Airex foam.
Next we see hull rolled over to the upright position and then the mold is lifted out of the hull shell. The mold is sometimes removed in one piece as shown here or in parts depending on the shape of the hull and the method used to laminate the hull.
