Hi Bruce,
I trust you are keeping well, and hope you are getting good
responses to your new Cat 35 etc Plans.
Re your request for an update,
Geoff and his excellent Team are moving along very well, having mostly
completed the building jig, and, as we speak, are starting to lay up the
hulls/bridge-deck.
I understand Geoff has briefed you on the
aesthetic changes he has been making. I am
absolutely sure that once he has finished, you will fall in love
with the look of the 1st Bruce Roberts Cat 35!
Now being several weeks into the process, and
therefore having had quite a lot of contact with Geoff and his key Team
Members, I have been very impressed with the passion that he and his
Team are putting into making this both a great performing boat,
(supported by your excellent technical design), and a beauty to look at
and be aboard.
The quality of their work, and
the time and effort to make sure it is so, is second to none. Based on
my experience, and that of many people I know
who have exposure to boat building, this is a classic example of where a
smaller, more personal operation results in a much greater attention to
detail, greater pride in the level of quality, and excellent
communication with the Customer.
It is interesting to note that
Geoff has accomplished something that is hard to do anywhere, let alone
in Thailand, and that is to have a group of workers who are skilled, who
have been loyal to him for a long time, and who all take a very
personal, and emotional interest in the boat they are working on.
In the words of his key
Engineer, as we were talking about the time when the boat will be
sitting in front of us as a finished product,
“ I will not be looking at just a boat, I
will be looking at something that is me, something that involves my name
.... and I want to be proud of it!” This is
Geoff’s attitude for sure, and one that he creates in his whole Team.
