Canoe Stern Fiberglass World Cruising
Sailboat. Below you will find study drawings and photographs of this design...please read the text and give the graphics time to load. This design has appealed to many serious cruising sailors and there are many Roberts 50's in service worldwide. Although the design was prepared for fiberglass construction, several round steel versions have also been built by very experianced steel boatbuilders. The standard plans and frame patterns are available for construction with FIBREGLASS in either C-Flex, Foam or Balsa Sandwich or Single Skin Glass. This is one of our earlier designs and was designed originally to the specifications of and yachtsman of considerable experience. This design can be used for charter or for just plain cruising. The ketch rig and canoe stern make this a most seaworthy design. Several different accommodation layouts are possible with this design. |

| Bruce, I recently purchased a GRP Roberts 50 called Solitaire. The boat was built in the mid 70s and as such must be one of the first Roberts 50s built. I understand the boat has circumnavigated and ended up in Brisbane in the mid 80s. On another note, we have now covered over 2000 miles in the last 18 months both in a cruising mode and participating in the local ocean races. To date we have been very impressed with the boats performance, particularly whilst racing in Bass Strait in winds gusting over 50 knots. I hope you will be able to assist in the information gathering . Thanks & Regards Mark Folley |
