Roberts 25 - TRAILERABLE SAILBOAT
Over 1,000 examples of this design have already been completed. This trailerable sailboat has been very popular and performs well in either the shoal draft or regular keel versions, both of which are included in the study package. While not as sleek looking as the latest offerings from other designers this design will always remain popular because of its voluminous accommodation and good, safe handling characteristics making it a wonderful  boat for the whole family.

This design can be built in either Moulded Plywood / Wood Epoxy or Fibreglass - C-Flex, Single Skin or Foam Sandwich.

Thank you for your email.  I wondered where the REAL Bruce Roberts was.
I purchased my plans for a Roberts 25 from Bruce Roberts in about 1975.  A couple years later I purchased a Hull and Deck from Morrissey, Port Moody, Canada, and finished out the Roberts 25 in Mesa, AZ.  In 1981, my then 11 year old son and I took my month long shake-down cruise on the Aarian in the waters along the West coast of BC.

Since then I've cruised in the coastal waters on the East and West coasts of the US, West coast of BC, Puget Sound, and the Gulf of  California, as well as on some of the lakes in AZ.    The Aarian is now located in San Carlos, MX, on the Gulf of Californian, an area offering great day and weekend sailing and coastal cruising.   Although I did modify the cabin design just a bit, I have no complaints with the Roberts 25 design.

The interior of my boat, with  6' head room (I'm 5'9") is as roomy as most 27' boats.  You did an excellent job.  Thank you for your part in years of enjoyable  cruising. Denny L Graham

The Roberts 25 makes an ideal trailer sailer as over 1,000 owners have discovered over the past many years.

Another Roberts 25 lies at anchor in a cove on the Australian coastline.

Hi Bruce,

Just thought I would let you know that I used to own a Roberts 25 design which I delivered up the coast from Batemans Bay to Sydney. When the weather finally turned in my favour I had no crew so, inspired by the ability of the Roberts design, I decided to sail her solo to Sydney.

The Roberts 25 had a tiller pilot but no lifelines. I clipped myself on with a harness for the full duration of the voyage which was lucky as I encountered some serious weather. It ended up being 4 to 5 metre seas with a following breeze gusting to 40 knots. The waves were constantly breaking as they loomed above me but the Roberts held her course well and I never broached. In fact no water ever came aboard as she lifted to each wave and her hull shape gave a safe comfortable motion. In any other boat of the same size I would have been **** scared. My tiller pilot failed so at one stage I was on the helm for 12 hours straight until I could duck into Jervis Bay for a rest.

An excellent and very seaworthy design. Thank you so much for that. Best Regards, Colin Skinner

'Margie' is a good sea boat having cruised the West Coast from Scotland to the Channel Islands and Ireland.

She has excellent standing headroom in the saloon/wheelhouse and good head height in the fore-cabin. She is built with a strong 1" thick hull based on a Bruce Roberts sailing hull therefore her sailing performance is superior to that normally expected of traditional motor sailers.

The hull was epoxy treated as a preventative measure in 1999 and the interior professionally fitted out in 2000.

Fiberglass or Wood / Epoxy

This illustration shows the male hull mold covered with either thin inexpensive plywood or hard-board followed by the inner fiberglass laminate, next either foam or balsa core and finally the outer layers of fiberglass. Note the area of the keel is not cored but has additional fiberglass laminate to provide maximum strength in this area.
