IN SERVICE - REPORT FROM CUSTOMER
-
(Spray 58 trawler version)
"Just got in from second halibut
trip. This boat has proven itself in trip up from Seattle,
she is a GREAT
sea boat & also very fast."
There are over 5,000 Sprays already sailing
world wide plus over 1,000 currently being built from our boat plans and STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES. We
have been willing to listen to every combination of idea's about this
wonderful boat and several layouts have been drawn. Many of these features
are interchangeable between the various versions.
This boat is designed in accordance with Lloyds for
category 1 (unrestricted operating / sailing area), which is much better
than the EU and other Classification Societies and the CE-A require.
Complete stability calculations are included in the design package. All
calculations are also cross referenced against ABS requirements to ensure
that the design meets world-wide standards and specifications.
In the case of STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES, all plate parts belonging to the hull, deck and
superstructure that are accurately cut to size are included. The parts are
marked with the appropriate part number and engraved matching marking
lines to assist in the assembly and location of the part in its position.
Cutting method is Plasma / Oxygen, ensuring highest accuracy and smooth
edges.
Plate parts are cut from Lloyds approved A Grade
Shipbuilding quality STEEL that has been coated with factory applied Sigma
weld MC welding primer. We use and recommend steel plate that has the
official designation ISO standard 10474 or EN 10204 with 3.1.B
certificate.
These Sprays have completed complete
circumnavigations some more than once &
usually with crews consisting only of two persons

Wednesday,
January 08, 2003 Dear Bruce, We have now built NINE steel boats to your boat plans
already, 1 x R434D, 1 x WR28, 1 x R58, 3 x C-Spray 45s, 1 x C-Spray 50, 1 x
CS50 and 1 x R532.
One of the best things to happen to builders is when former customers
come back for another new boat. Yes the customer for whom we built a Robert 58 in 1998 has
ordered a new Spray Classic for delivery completed this year including the interior. I am
very proud and happy to build boats from your boat plans for people who have such a high
estimate of your design & my workmanship. Victor Tchaburko

either version of the Spray 52 / 58
This is one of several
lay-outs possible in the versatile Spray 52 / 58
This three masted schooner
version was prepared for one customer who is building a Spray TY 52 from one
of our STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES.

SPRAY 58
The STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES comes complete with
the setting up jigs which we see here set up on rails and bottom plates dropped into position.
"Hi Bruce:
the project is off to a good start, jig is erected and a few frames have been built, by
the end of today we should be finished with all frames. I have quite a crew 3 good welders with lots of experience building and modifying
boats, me and a friend round out the labour crew.
We inventoried the parts and everything
so far is accounted for, it really looks quite well done.......Regards STAN"
The bulkheads and frames are
pre-assembled on the floor and set up on the marked reference lines. This
all applies whether you start with a one our pre-cut STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES or if you purchase
cutting files and boat plans and have the STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES cut locally.
Pre-shaped hull shell plating is complete
with reference line and is simply added until hull is complete.
JUST A FEW WEEKS LATER:
Hi Bruce:
Launch occurred on June 28 right on schedule. Everything went very smoothly. Still about a
week of welding to do but boat looks great, will put in windows & doors today
& tomorrow. I leave for Alaska July 11 to fish other boat, will send you
another group of pics soon. Stan
Here we see the aluminum
pilot house that is recommended for the Spray TY 52 ... The Spray 58 can
have a steel pilot house if preferred.
In either case the pilot house can be assembled on or
off the hull as preferred and this may help with transporting the boat to
the water from the building site.

Bruce, I have been a long-time admirer of your design work.
I finally got the chance to board a Spray for the first time yesterday. ( I almost drove
off the road as I craned my neck to get a better look at her.) She is moored
alongside the St. Pete (Florida) Yacht Club Sailing Center Building. Her builder is
an interesting Polish lad by the name of Maciej Rosochowicz, he told me that he is planing
a voyage for disabled sailors in the near future. I can't imagine a more
stable platform.
He sang your praises all the while that I spoke with him. He
described an early voyage of MACIEJKA in short, irregular, fifteen foot seas as that
of a duck climbing up a wall of water and then sliding down the other side. He
beamed with delight as he told me how well she steered herself. He is truly happy.
You have accomplished a great deal more than just designing a fine vessel. You have
made a difference in the human condition. Witness the smile on his face and the
sparkle in his eyes as he speaks about his floating mistress. Your SPRAY has immeasurably
improved his standard of living.
I wish you and yours continued success. Sincerely,
Nils Klykken
