Roberts 53 E

One of many Roberts 53's sailing off the East  Coast USA

Hello, we built a Roberts 53E in steel. This April we let it to sea in Slovenia (Izola). We sailed for 12 weeks to Greece and back to Slovenia. Our boat runs well-maximum speed was 9.9 knots and after having starting problems everything is fine and we are very confident with the construction. In several weeks we suppose to send a photo of our "Filia Maris"

Thanks and greetings from good old Austria ..Elmar+Günter Appl

Roberts 53 E

While looking over larger designs, the kids asked to see pictures of Roberts 53's and to or surprise our  boat Jump Up (built as Linda Marie) appeared!   Jump Up shows up with a black stripe in a picture taken in Fiji and with a red stripe at the end of her circumnavigation with Baltimore Harbor in the background.   We are moved ashore for now and Jump Up is for sale, but we are already thinking of the next boat, the  R 65 looks good.  If it serves as well as the 53 has done we would be delighted to own one.   Regards, John Flanigan.

'Tara'

Bruce, I had a Roberts 53 hull 'Tara" professionally built and finished the rest myself. I am very happy with the boat. It was launched as a bare hull in Sept. 1994 and last summer I sailed it for the first time. I found that in very light air she has enough momentum to carry it a long way which helps you maneuver especially under sail. In heavy air she is fairly quick and has a lot of initial stability which helps to sail rail up. Off shore, again, the weight helps to smooth out the ride. All in all the boat has a lot of room, is very comfortable and is a pleasure to sail. Have fun and good luck. ....Jon B.

DESIGNERS COMMENT...Countless examples of this design have completed circumnavigation's...see my books "CHOOSING FOR CRUISING" and the new book METAL BOATS.....Bruce
