design and we have sold a number of sets of cutting files and kits for this serious
offshore vessel. Thank You Bruce for your
advice, I recalled
that you were very easy to work with back in the late 70's when I built my
Offshore 38. I see that same persona still exists.
Thanks you for the advice on boat selection. Regards Glen |

Voyager TY 620-B Hi Bruce, We sure enjoy full-time cruising & living aboard. We've cruised from San Francisco to British Columbia. This spring we are heading to SE Alaska for two years. Sonata is the hit of every anchorage and we are constantly giving tours. Regards, LEE SIMPSON Hi Bruce,
Going on three years of live aboard and haven't
regretted one minute It's been a great life on a great boat.
I've been asked to participate in a boat building seminar at the Trawler
Fest in June. Unfortunately we will be in Alaska by then. Sonata has
become famous as we get approached every where we go. The Passagemaker
article had a lot of readers. Have you seen any response from interested
builders?.
I see you've done some more writing. Do you plan to come out with a book
version? Probably would be fun to read even after building. I'm happy to hear the good news about the popularity of the trawler design. I've had thoughts of doing another one someday but we are just having to much fun with the cruising life. As I look back, the building of Sonata has been one of the great experiences of my life. I am very proud of her. I would like very much to review your writings on building boats. Thanks for being an important part of a great life experience and Thanks again for the great design and project, Lee Simpson NEW Photos and report on TY 620 SEE FULL REPORT ON THIS BOAT IN PASSAGEMAKER MAGAZINE .. | Bruce, I had reply from RYA on plan evaluations. They have been very quick and say they have no concerns about suitability for RCD design Category A. Nice compliment on the quality of your plan information. Everything seems to be OK. They used Naval Architecture Services LTD in Hampshire. LR SSC service group G6 (unrestricted yacht) . |

Hi Well, the day finally arrived, the kit is here and on our shop floor. The steel looks great, we are starting to sort it into piles of the frames and associated pieces. I think the guys in Holland did an excellent job of cutting as the edges of the plates are very clean and sharp with almost no bevel. This last point is important, as we find with plasma cut kits, if there is any bevel on the edges it tends to add up and compound errors where multiple parts fit together. So, we are anticipating no problems at this stage. Hope you enjoyed the pictures Bruce (our Bruce) sent you, we will send more as we start assembling the kit. We actually made good progress on Friday and managed to build most of the building frames as well as all of the jigs. We are altering the building frame a bit to allow us to set the jigs on the floor as we are limited in height. As it is we will have to build the mast in a way that it can be bolted on after the boat is out of the building. Yes, everything looks fine and we are sure the kit will assemble fast. Sincerely, Brian |
| Hi Hal,
We have bounced back and
forth between DC and Hydraulic thruster' s and have finally decided on hydraulic mainly
because we would need a 48 Volt thruster and that meant 12v, 24v, & 48v DC and we just
think we would rather have one dc voltage (12V). We had sized the generator for hydraulic
anyway so it just makes sense. We think we will use two 2500 watt inverters and split the loads again to
stay with 12 volts DC only. I want to thank you for working so closely through the
construction. He will be complete with the mechanical and exterior We will continue to send pictures and updates as we begin our part of the project. |
